Garlic Naan Lasagna (La-naan-a)
Layers of cheese, Italian sausage marinara and garlic naan create a delicious twist on traditional lasagna — a family-friendly dish I like to call “la-naan-a.”

September often brings hectic schedules: back-to-school routines, extracurricular activities, and the constant shuffle to get everyone fed and out the door. This Garlic Naan Lasagna is built for busy weeknights. By swapping traditional lasagna noodles for soft, ready-to-use garlic naan, you skip boiling pasta and speed up assembly without sacrificing the comforting, layered flavors everyone loves.

Think tender garlic naan, rich Italian sausage marinara, and a creamy herbed ricotta layer topped with melted mozzarella and parmesan. The result is an irresistible, slightly unconventional lasagna that comes together in about 30 minutes of prep and bakes until bubbly and golden.

Why This Recipe Works
Using garlic naan instead of boiled lasagna noodles delivers several advantages: a soft, pillowy texture; built-in garlic flavor; and fewer steps during prep. The naan soaks up some of the sauce while still holding its shape, creating distinct layers and a satisfying mouthfeel. This recipe is ideal for families craving a comforting meal without extra fuss.
Garlic Naan Lasagna Ingredients
Italian Sausage Marinara
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ cup diced onion
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lb Italian sausage (casings removed)
- ¼ cup red wine vinegar
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
- 1 can (28 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- ½ tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- 1 tsp dried oregano
Garlic Naan Lasagna
- 32 oz ricotta cheese
- 2 ¼ cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
- ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped
- ½ tsp dried parsley
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- 3 pieces garlic naan
Instructions
- Prepare the Italian sausage marinara: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through.
- Stir in the red wine vinegar, tomato paste, diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Season with kosher salt, black pepper, fresh basil, dried parsley and dried oregano.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10–15 minutes to allow flavors to meld. While the sauce simmers, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, ¼ cup of the mozzarella, parmesan, fresh basil, dried parsley and dried oregano. Mix until evenly combined.
- Assemble the lasagna in a 9″ x 12″ baking dish: Place one piece of garlic naan on the bottom. Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture evenly over the naan.
- Spoon a layer of the Italian sausage marinara over the ricotta layer.
- Add a second piece of garlic naan, spread another third of the ricotta mixture over it, then top with the remaining marinara.
- Place the final piece of garlic naan on top and spread the remaining ricotta mixture across it. Sprinkle the remaining 2 cups of shredded mozzarella over the top.
- Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake an additional 20–30 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the top is golden and bubbling.
- Let the lasagna rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. This helps the layers set so servings hold together.

Tips, Variations & Storage
- Make it meatless: Substitute a hearty vegetable or mushroom ragù for the sausage for a vegetarian variation.
- Cheese variations: Swap part of the ricotta for cottage cheese if you prefer a lighter texture, or add a layer of shredded provolone for a different flavor profile.
- Make-ahead: Assemble the lasagna and refrigerate (covered) for a few hours before baking. If chilled, you may need to add a few extra minutes to the bake time so it heats through.
- Storage: Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat portions until warmed through. Leftovers are great the next day for quick lunches or dinners.
