Fresh blueberries and creamy cheesecake-style filling come together in these irresistible blueberry cream cheese muffins, finished with a crunchy chocolate crumble.

Blueberry muffins have always been one of my favorite breakfasts, and this version elevates the classic into something decadent enough for dessert. Lush cream cheese swirled into the batter gives a tender, slightly tangy center, while fresh blueberries burst with juicy sweetness. A chocolate crumble topping adds texture and a bit of drama as the berries bubble through while the muffins bake.
When these muffins came out of the oven, warm blueberries were peeking through the crumble and the aroma made it impossible not to dig in. They’re rich and satisfying, yet easy enough to make any morning or for a special weekend brunch.

Blueberry Cream Cheese Muffins
These muffins come together in about 35 minutes total, with 15 minutes of prep and about 20 minutes of baking. They make 12 generous muffins that are tender, moist, and full of blueberry flavor. The cream cheese adds a rich, soft pocket in each muffin, while the chocolate crumble provides a crisp finish.
Can you make these muffins without liners?
Yes. If you prefer not to use paper liners, grease a standard metal muffin tin with nonstick spray or brush with butter. A light coating prevents sticking and helps the muffins release cleanly. Stoneware muffin pans work especially well for even browning and easy cleanup.
Do blueberry cream cheese muffins need refrigeration?
Because the recipe includes cream cheese, it’s best to refrigerate any muffins you won’t eat within a couple of hours of baking. Store cooled muffins in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To warm leftovers, microwave a muffin on a damp paper towel for about 20–30 seconds to restore moisture and soften the filling.

Why these muffins are special
The combination of cream cheese and blueberries gives a contrast of creamy richness and bright fruitiness. The quick chocolate crumble—made from cocoa, brown sugar, and cold butter—adds a satisfying crunch and a hint of chocolate that pairs beautifully with the berries. These muffins are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet treat after dinner.
They also make a delightful gift—bring a warm batch to neighbors, friends, or your favorite service providers. Small, thoughtful packages of fresh-baked muffins are always appreciated and easy to share.

Recipe: Blueberry Cream Cheese Muffins with Chocolate Crumble
Servings: 12 muffins
Prep time: 15 minutes | Cook time: 20 minutes | Total time: 35 minutes
Ingredients
Blueberry Cream Cheese Muffins
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 3 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
Chocolate Crumble
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp cold butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and 1/2 cup brown sugar.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the honey and vanilla until smooth.
- Add the eggs to the cream cheese mixture, then stir in the melted butter and milk until combined.
- Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined, then gently fold in the fresh blueberries.
- Spoon batter into a greased or lined muffin tin, filling each cup about three-quarters full.
- Place the muffins in the oven and bake for 5 minutes.
- While the muffins start baking, make the chocolate crumble: combine 1/3 cup brown sugar, cocoa, and 2 tablespoons flour. Cut or rub in the cold butter until the mixture forms a coarse crumble. Using your fingers to incorporate the butter works well.
- Remove the muffins from the oven after the initial 5 minutes and sprinkle the chocolate crumble evenly over the tops.
- Return the muffins to the oven and bake for another 13–15 minutes, or until the crumble is crisp and the blueberries are bubbling. A toothpick inserted near (but not through) the center should come out mostly clean.
- Allow muffins to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely or enjoy warm.
Tips & variations
- For evenly distributed berries, toss blueberries in a tablespoon of flour before folding them into the batter to prevent sinking.
- Use frozen blueberries if fresh are not available—do not thaw them; fold frozen berries into the batter directly.
- For a lighter crumble, increase the crumble ingredients slightly and pulse in a food processor, or use oats for added texture.
- To make mini muffins, reduce the bake time and check for doneness after 10–12 minutes total.
Storage
Store muffins in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days because of the cream cheese. You can freeze fully cooled muffins for up to 1 month; thaw overnight in the refrigerator and reheat briefly in the microwave. Reheat on a damp paper towel for best moisture retention.
