This Blackberry Jalapeño Margarita is made entirely with fresh ingredients—no pre-made mixes or refined sugar—delivering the ideal balance of sweet, tart and spicy in every sip.

Cinco de Mayo is just a few days away—time to prepare tacos, chips and a lineup of bright, fresh margaritas. This Blackberry Jalapeño Margarita is vibrant in color and flavor, pairing especially well with chips and a fruity, spicy guacamole. It’s quick to make and impressive to serve.

Ingredients
- 4–5 fresh blackberries
- 1/2 jalapeño, seeds removed and thinly sliced (leave seeds in for more heat)
- 1/2 lime, juiced
- 3 oz silver (blanco) tequila
- 1 oz agave nectar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
Instructions
1. In the bottom of a cocktail shaker or sturdy mixing glass, muddle the blackberries with the jalapeño slices until the berries have released their juice and the pepper is fragrant.

2. Add the ice, tequila, lime juice and agave nectar to the shaker.

3. Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until chilled.
4. Strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice. Optionally double-strain through a fine mesh to remove seeds and jalapeño bits.
5. Garnish with a whole blackberry and a thin jalapeño slice. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes & Tips
- Adjust the heat: Remove all seeds and membranes from the jalapeño for a mild touch. Keep a few seeds if you prefer more spice. Taste as you go—agave nectar can be increased or reduced depending on berry sweetness.
- Tequila choice: Use a quality silver/blanco tequila for a clean, bright flavor. Reposado adds a touch of oak if you prefer a deeper profile.
- Glass and rim: Serve over fresh ice in a rocks glass. For a contrast, rim the glass with coarse salt or chili-lime salt.
- Straining: To avoid seeds and pulp in the glass, double-strain the cocktail through a fine mesh sieve.
- Make it frozen: For a blended version, combine ingredients with 1–2 cups of ice in a blender and blend until smooth.
Serving Suggestions
This margarita pairs beautifully with Mexican-inspired dishes—think grilled shrimp tacos, carnitas, or a fresh bowl of chips and a fruity jalapeño guacamole. Its bright blackberry notes and peppery kick also complement grilled meats and citrus-forward salsas.
Variations
- Berry swap: Substitute raspberries or blackberries with blueberries for a different fruit profile.
- Sweetener alternatives: Honey or simple syrup can replace agave if needed; adjust quantities to taste.
- Herb twist: Add a sprig of fresh mint or basil to the shaker for a fresh herbal accent.
