What you’ll need

Loaded Baked Potato Bread Ingredients

  • 1 loaf potato bread (a rustic loaf works best)
  • 4 bacon slices, cooked and crumbled
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped

Servings and time

Serves: 6 people

Prep time: 15 minutes | Cook time: 25 minutes | Total time: 40 minutes

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a small bowl until smooth.
  2. Add the shredded cheddar, chopped green onions and crumbled bacon to the melted butter. Stir to combine so the cheese and toppings are lightly coated.
  3. Place the potato bread on a cutting board. Using a sharp knife, make slices about ¾ of the way through the loaf both horizontally and vertically to form a grid of pockets. Be careful not to cut all the way through the bottom of the loaf.
  4. Gently use your fingers to open each cut and stuff the bacon-cheese-onion mixture into the pockets, distributing the filling evenly throughout the loaf.
  5. Wrap foil tightly around the bottom and sides of the loaf, leaving the top exposed so the cheese can melt without burning the crust. Optionally add a second piece of foil loosely over the top for the first part of baking.
  6. Place the wrapped loaf in a preheated 350°F (177°C) oven for 15 minutes.
  7. Carefully remove the top piece of foil and return the loaf to the oven for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Remove from the oven, discard the foil, and transfer the loaf to a serving plate. Let it cool slightly so the cheese sets a little, then pull apart by hand and enjoy.

Loaded Baked Potato Pull Apart Bread

Tips for success

  • Choose a sturdy potato bread or rustic loaf so it holds the filling without collapsing.
  • Use freshly shredded cheese for the best melt and flavor.
  • Don’t overfill the loaf; leave enough space in the pockets so the bread still pulls apart easily.
  • If you like extra crispness, remove foil for a few more minutes at the end of baking and watch carefully to avoid burning.
