Bring the flavor to taco night!

If you love using your air fryer, these chicken tacos will become a staple. Cooking chicken breasts in the air fryer is fast and consistent—just a few simple steps and you have juicy, well-seasoned chicken. Follow these tips for the best results:

  • Butterfly the chicken: Slice each breast in half lengthwise so pieces are about 1/2-inch thick. Thin, even pieces cook faster and stay tender.
  • Season generously: Use a robust taco seasoning—homemade or store-bought. For about 1 1/2 pounds of chicken (two breasts cut into four pieces), 3 tablespoons of seasoning gives excellent flavor.
  • Brush on glaze at the end: For a sticky finish and extra depth, brush the chipotle-honey sauce on the chicken during the final two minutes of cooking.

Seasoning + chicken + glaze + 12 minutes in the air fryer = a flavorful dinner in about 20 minutes.

Key ingredients

The photos show the main ingredients to help you shop and prep. Below are quick notes on key items; full ingredient amounts are listed in the recipe card.

  • Chicken: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are used here, but boneless thighs are a good alternative—add 3–4 minutes to cooking time if you choose thighs. Use an instant-read thermometer to confirm an internal temperature of 165°F.
  • Taco seasoning: Homemade seasoning adds the best flavor, but store-bought packets work too. If using prepackaged mixes, check the quantity—you may need two packets to reach the 3 tablespoons called for in this recipe.

Step-by-step photos are included to help guide you. The short instructions below are easy to follow; see the recipe card further down for full details.

How to serve the chicken

The cooked chipotle-honey chicken is versatile. Use it in tacos, build a bowl, or top a salad. Here are several dependable serving ideas:

  • Tacos: Dice or slice the chicken and pile into warmed small tortillas. Top with shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, pickled onions, crumbled cotija or queso fresco, guacamole, and fresh cilantro for texture and brightness.
  • Bowls: Start with a base like cilantro-lime rice, add the chicken, black beans or corn, diced avocado, and a salsa or crema for a satisfying grain bowl.
  • Salad: Serve the sliced chicken over a bed of mixed greens with tomatoes, red onion, and a smoky vinaigrette. It’s an excellent protein-packed lunch or light dinner.

You can also serve the chipotle-honey chicken as a main entree alongside Mexican-style sides such as seasoned rice, black beans, or fresh tomato salsa and chips.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 3 tablespoons taco seasoning

Chipotle Honey Sauce

  • 1-2 chipotle peppers in adobo
  • ½ tablespoon adobo sauce
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

For serving (optional)

  • 12 small flour tortillas or corn tortillas
  • 4 cups cilantro lime rice (optional)

Equipment

  • Air fryer

Instructions

  1. Slice each chicken breast in half lengthwise so you have thinner, even pieces. Pat dry and rub the taco seasoning over both sides of the chicken.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (if your model requires preheating). Place the seasoned chicken in a single layer and air fry for 10 minutes.
  3. While the chicken cooks, combine chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, honey, and lime juice in a blender or food processor and puree until smooth to make the glaze.
  4. After 10 minutes, open the air fryer, flip the chicken pieces, and brush them with the chipotle-honey sauce. Air fry an additional 2 minutes at 400°F to set the glaze.
  5. Remove the chicken, brush with any remaining glaze, slice or dice, and serve immediately in tortillas or over rice or salad.

Notes

  • Chipotle heat: Use one chipotle if you prefer a milder, sweeter glaze; use two for more heat. The adobo sauce comes from the same can as the chipotles.
  • Serving options: Nutrition information does not include tortillas or rice—those are optional depending on how you serve the chicken.
  • Gluten-free option: Serve in corn tortillas, over rice, or on a salad to keep the meal gluten free.
  • Storage and reheating: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 6 days. Enjoy cold on salads or reheat in the air fryer at 400°F for 3–4 minutes until warmed through.
