I love experimenting with bold and playful flavors—Nutella, coffee, bacon, Sriracha and wine all make regular appearances in my kitchen. For this recipe I was inspired by the popularity of a seasonal pumpkin hummus and wanted to try a dessert-style hummus using one of my favorite spreads: Nutella.

The result is a velvety, slightly nutty chocolate dip that’s surprisingly light for how indulgent it tastes. It’s ideal for dipping strawberries, banana slices, apple wedges, or graham crackers. The chickpeas give the dip body and protein, while the Nutella brings the familiar chocolate-hazelnut flavor everyone loves.

Nutella Fruit Dip

Plump, juicy strawberries dipped into rich Nutella hummus make a particularly delightful bite: the bright fruit contrasts beautifully with the creamy chocolate-hazelnut flavor. Serve this at gatherings, kids’ parties, or as a fun after-school snack.

Nutella Hummus Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 oz) can garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained and rinsed
  • ½ cup Nutella (or another chocolate-hazelnut spread)
  • 1 tablespoon tahini
  • ¼ cup olive oil

Instructions

Place the drained chickpeas, Nutella, tahini and olive oil into a food processor or high-speed blender. Process until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed. If the hummus seems too thick, add a teaspoon or two of water or additional olive oil to reach your desired consistency.

This recipe is naturally gluten free when paired with fruit. It’s also a good option if you’re looking for a dessert-style dip that’s not purely processed sugar—chickpeas add fiber and protein, helping the dip feel more substantial.

Tips and Variations

  • For an extra-smooth texture, remove the skins from the chickpeas before blending (optional but effective).
  • Swap tahini for a tablespoon of peanut butter or almond butter for a different nutty note.
  • Add a pinch of sea salt or a splash of vanilla extract to enhance the chocolate flavor.
  • For a lighter version, reduce the Nutella slightly and increase tahini or use a lighter chocolate spread.
  • Garnish with chopped hazelnuts, a drizzle of Nutella, or a dusting of cocoa powder before serving.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Stir before serving; if the texture firms up, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften.
